MISSION STATEMENT: In 1998, a Survey of Nigerian Non-governmental organizations was conducted throughout Nigeria by researchers commissioned by the touch bearers of Multi Sector Projects (MPL). The Survey aimed to establish:
i. The core competencies of Nigerian NGOs.
ii. Institutional focus and service delivery strategies.
iii. Geographical spread and rate of distribution.
iv. Specialization and professionalism.

 ---------------------------------- The research Findings indicated among other things that:
MPL’s research on culture, gender and Harmful Traditional Practices (HTP) reveals a strong linkage between rural gender poverty and the vulnerability of women to negative cultural practices in response to pressure for survival.
  • 65% of NGOs are constituted by members who do not have professional backgrounds rich enough to support effective delivery of services in their chosen areas of interest.
  • 70% of indigenous NGOs seem to disregard formative research as a critical aspect of program design, management and M & E.
 
  • 25% of Local NGOs actually have research capability and information database to support country level development programming in Nigeria.

  Against this backdrop, MPL was registered with a view to:
  i. Utilizing a multisectoral approach to addressing specific developmental problems.
 
ii. Focusing definitely on development research and thus provide research backup to the works of other NGOs, multilateral and bilateral institutions in Nigeria, governments at all levels as well as development foundations operating in Nigeria.
 
iii. Utilizing in-depth research to strengthen sustainable development interventions in diverse sectors.
