(i) ENHANCING MATERNAL HEALTH CARE IN OKON COMMUNITY: A CASE FOR TRAINING TRADITIONAL BIRTH ATTENDANTS (TBA) IN MODERN TECHNIQUES OF DELIVERY AND FAMILY PLANNING.

Project Brief: The project focuses on knowledge building and capacity strengthening of Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) through trainings in modern methods and techniques of maternal health care and family planning.

The training covers specific issues including recognition of danger signals and referrals to hospitals, avoidance of harmful practices during delivery, use/adoption of modern delivery kits as well as precaution to prevent HIV/AIDS transmissions from mother to child.
Also incorporated in the project is the mechanism to establish and strengthening linkages between TBAs and primary/secondary health care services system for enhanced maternal health care in the community. Ministry of Health provides trainers/training facilities.
